The Edmonton Oilers were started in 1971 as one of the founding franchises of the World Hockey Association (WHA). After seven WHA seasons, which included a loss to the Winnipeg Jets in the last Avco Cup Final, the Oilers were one of the four teams to merge with the NHL. The Oilers experienced immediate success in the NHL by qualifying for the playoffs in their first 13 seasons, winning five Stanley Cups in the process. The 1980s Oilers teams were some of the best in league history and featured some of hockey’s most legendary names, including Wayne Gretzky, Mark Messier, and Paul Coffey. The 1990s were less kind to them and the team bottomed out in the 2010s, which resulted in them earning multiple first-overall picks, including Connor McDavid, who by all intents and purposes is the modern-day Gretzky.

Maybe Tkachuk should go check the Hockey Hall of Fame website for their official list of NHL dynasties. If the 2025-26 version of the Oilers want to derail the Panthers and win a Stanley Cup during the…

Could a Polarizing Goalie Move the Needle for McDavid?

As Connor McDavid’s contract situation continues to dominate headlines, the Edmonton Oilers may be facing a critical offseason decision that could influence the superstar’s next move: upgrading their goaltending. There are options, but whether any of them are upgrades is debatable. Interestingly, The 2 Mutts Podcast recently stirred discussion in Oilers Nation by reporting on the status of Carter Hart, whose potential return to the NHL has many players excited. Carter Hart: Ready for a Comeback Hart, currently training in Edmonton, is focused on returning to the league after being cleared of sexual assault allegations alongside other Team Canada players….
